call for emergency plumbing or heating services

Nothing can put a damper on your day like a plumbing or heating emergency. Many times these emergencies cost a homeowner thousands of dollars and can lead to even bigger issues if not addressed immediately. But what constitutes an emergency and when should you call for emergency plumbing or heating services?

Frozen Pipes/Burst Water Pipes

During the winter, frozen pipes are a major concern for Iowa homeowners. When the water inside a pipe freezes it expands as it turns into ice and can cause the pipe to break.

Any burst water pipe – whether from a frozen pipe or not – is a reason to shut off your water and call for emergency plumbing service. Water from a burst pipe can cause an enormous amount of damage to your home and cost you a lot of money, if not covered by your home insurance.

Little to No Water

If you turn on your faucet and no water comes out, it may be your instinct to automatically call your plumber. However, before you do this, make sure to call your water company to ensure they haven’t turned off your water for any reason.

If you call your water company and they don’t know the reason for your lack of water, contact Hanna Plumbing & Heating. You may have a frozen or burst pipe, a clog, or a different major issue in your plumbing.

Tips for plumbing emergencies:

1. Turn off your water. If you do not know where you water shutoff valve, you should find it right away. In the event of an emergency, you don’t want to be running around looking for it.

2. Contact your water company. Depending on the issue you’re facing, they may pay for a plumber to come out to your home to fix the issue.

3. Call Hanna Plumbing & Heating. After you’ve completed the first two steps, call us for emergency plumbing services.

Call the gas company – they will come out for free and make sure it isn’t a life threatening problem. They can also shut off the unit and tell you where gas is coming from.

If the leak is coming from your A/C or heating unit, call Hanna Plumbing & Heating.
